Fall Gardening School Workshops

The Garden-Based Learning programs are horticulture programs that are designed for hobbyist gardeners and homeowners. These introductory workshops provide participants with new information and the confidence to improve their own gardens and landscapes.  All classes will be held at East Meadow Farm.

Cost: $30 per workshop per person.

Beyond the Birdfeeder: Bird Gardens - Songbirds are among the most loved and beautiful wild animals. Find out what attracts, and keeps, birds in the home landscape, through a guided examination of bird-friendly features at the East Meadow farm. Participants will use their newly acquired knowledge to design a bird garden as a group.

1:00pm - 3:00pm

Fall Color for the Home - Come to East Meadow Farm’s demonstration gardens to find out how to turn a sometimes bleak season into a celebration of beauty. From tropicals to trees, learn what to plant for seasonal color, texture, and structure. Participants will use their newly acquired knowledge to design a fall color garden as a group.

Putting Your Garden to Bed - As the growing season draws to a close, what do you do now? Enter the winter season with confidence, after you find out what needs to be done – and what doesn’t – to provide for a beautiful and healthy spring garden.

Planting Garlic and Spring-Blooming Bulbs - What can you plant in November? Garlic and spring-blooming bulbs are easy-care plants that require little effort besides planning ahead. Learn about the beautiful and tasty possibilities that fall planting can give you in the spring to come.

The Garden Indoors-Houseplants- Winter can feel bleak without your garden – so bring a garden indoors with you! Enhance the health and beauty of your winter home as you find out which plants thrive in the house, and how to care for and propagate them. Participants will take home a new houseplant they propagate themselves.

1:00pm - 3:00pm

Natural Holiday Decorations - Tired of the same dusty decorations every holiday? Make them new every year, from the biodegradable, beautiful materials Nature provides. Take home a newly crafted decoration, along with ideas for the years to come.
